Google Android has the largest share of free apps: study
Bangalore: Google Android Market has the largest share of free applications with 57 percent. On the other hand, Windows Marketplace for Mobile has the smallest with only 22 percent, according to a study. Distimo, an analytics company has published some interesting statistics on a number of Mobile App stores that includes Apple App Store, BlackBerry App World, Google Android Market, Nokia Ovi Store, Palm App Catalog and Windows Mobile Marketplace. According to the statistics, the price of over 50 percent applications is below or equal to $2.00 in all stores. The only exceptions are BlackBerry App World and Windows Marketplace for Mobile. The average price of all paid applications and the 100 most popular paid applications in the Apple App Store for iPad ($4.65) is higher than in the Apple App Store for iPhone ($4.01). The iBook application by Apple is ranked one and the Kindle application by Amazon.com is ranked ten among the top 10 most popular free applications in the Apple App Store for iPad in the competitive e-reader market. Microsoft has published five most popular free applications out of ten in Windows Marketplace for Mobile. To millions of mobile users around the globe, Mobile App stores are a store house of number possibilities. Users are allowed to extend the functionality of mobile phone according to their own likings. Adding to it, a lot of mobile apps are free of cost. Mobile App stores are beneficial from developer perspective also. Infact, many development companies and individuals make good living developing apps for mobile app stores.
