Bangalore: Google announced that it will be bringing Google voice functionality in Gmail for people in UK. This is a paid service which will be availed for the first time by the people of UK. Since last year the paid- for Google voice functionality was already availed by the people of U.S.
In order to utilize the service Google Apps users will have to get their domain administrators to enable Google Voice and Google Checkout.
Gmail product manager Pierre Lebeau claimed in the blog post "You can now buy calling credit in your choice of four currencies (Euros, British pounds, Canadian dollars or US dollars) and there are no connection fees, so you only pay for the time you talk," the service is now available in 38 languages he added.
This launch will make Google a powerful challenger to skype, (world's leading voice-over-IP (VoIP) provider).
Calls made from Gmail to mobile phones in the UK, Germany or France will cost eight euro cents (7pound) per minute.Whereas Calls made from Skype to the same numbers will cost 15pound per minute.
