Home Minister P Chidambaram clarified one of the assailants has been arrested and said the Delhi police is directed to arrest the rest. Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, "The incident deserves to be condemned in the strongest possible words. The accused should be given harshest possible punishment." Tejinder Singh Bagga was a former member of the BJP Youth Morcha, but the party's spokesperson Nirmala Seetharaman distanced the saffron party from the controversial group and said, "The attack is not justified. Law should take its own course.The BJP has nothing to with the party." Many political parties including the Left Front, Janata Dal and activists such as Aruna Roy, Kuldip Nayyar and Medha Patkar have strongly condemned the attack.
