Political parties and taking the double stand on Jan Lokpal Bill
The main opposition, Bharatiya Janata Party has been careful in dealing with the Jan Lokpal Bill and has tactfully refrained from taking a firm stand on it. Nitin Gadkari, President of the Party, said the party was waiting for the ruling government to submit the Bill before the Parliament to make their final opinion. However, both Gadkari and the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley have later categorically rejected Team Anna's demand that their Jan Lokpal Bill should have been presented to Parliament by the government rather than the Cabinet-approved Bill. L K Advani claimed that the 2009 poll verdict had lost relevance and Manmohan Singh should seek a fresh public mandate. Team Anna has already voiced their disappointment with BJP for not clarifying its stand on the proposed Jan Lokpal Bill.
