7. Alefia Merchant
A young medical student, Alefia Merchant, 32 is pursuing medical studies in Canada. Alefia, during her short stint with Bangalore-based eye hospital, Narayana Nethralaya developed an easy method to spot eye disorders in young children. She used the images from digital cameras to look for vision threatening symptoms. The simplicity of the method provides a handy tool in the hands of health workers in remote corners of India and perhaps many other medically underserved regions in the world. For this amazing invention the jury named Alefia Merchant, the Humanitarian of the Year, from the perspective of technology innovation.
8. Krishna Gopal Singh
Krishna Gopal Singh, CTO & Co-Founder of EnNatura Technology Ventures, Delhi has created an ecofriendly printing ink that reduces harmful emissions by almost 99 percent. Currently, he leads technology and product development at EnNatura.
9. Sameer Jain
Sameer Jain, MGV Dental College, Nashik, created an innovative root canal machine. The modified root canal obturation machine has a temperature modulator and a vibrator. The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) has given me permission to try it on patients after my machine proved successful on extracted teeth, he added.
