No FDI in retail:

Time and again Mamata was seen threatening the UPA government on various issues and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) being one among them. Recently the government was forced to put on hold its decision to allow 51 percent foreign direct investment in multi-brand retail after the Trinamool opposed the decision. Mamata did not want FDI enter the Indian retail sector. She was quoted saying "I don't want the government to be toppled on this issue. This is a very sensitive issue. But at the same time, it is not possible for us to support FDI entry into retail sector. I am sorry." It was also noted that she had made it clear to the Prime Minister that her party could not support the government's move on FDI and had pointed out that her party's manifesto had clearly articulated its stand against FDI.
