Life Continues to be Paralyzed in Manipur
Bangalore: Life is totally paralyzed in Manipur, not just for a few hours, but over 100 days now with its people losing hope as the sufferings escalates to its peak with prices of essential commodities and fuel soaring up. The economic blockade that crippled the normal life in the state has entered its 100th day on Monday. Though the Kuki tribals have decided to cease its agitation, the Nagas seem adamant on their cause and continue to block the lifelines, especially Imphal-Silchar and Imphal-Dimapur highways. It all began with the Kuki's demand for the formation of a Kuki-dominated Sadar Hills district including a few portions from the Naga-majority Senapati district. The congress government led by Okram Ibobi Singh had assured the Kukis to consider their demands following the report of district re-organisation committee and had immediacy granted them three more sub-divisions to Sadar Hills area. Provoked by the Congress government's decision on Sadar Hills district ingnoring the Naga interests, the United Naga Council (UNC) began its counter blockade on highways on August 21.
