Bangalore: The adage "Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus" shows how different men and women are. Now a Nielsen study shows that when it comes to choosing smartphones, men and women's sensibilities differ here as well. For their next smartphone purchase, men would prefer buying an Android device while women are more likely to go for an iPhone. Based on Nielsen data collected in October 2010, 31 percent women desired to next purchase an Apple iOS device, while 22.8 percent rooted for an Android device. Amongst men, 32.6 percent showed interest in buying an Android device as compared to 28.6 percent going for an iOS phone. Nielsen results revealed that when it comes to market shares, iPhone and Blackberry are in "a statistical dead heat". Both have over 27 percent of the smartphone OS pie share. The rest of the pie consists of Android phones (22 percent) followed by Microsoft Windows Mobile (14 percent). The remaining eight percent is shared by Symbian, Linux, and Palm systems. The future looks bright for both iOS and Android. The study showed that for the "next desired smartphone purchase", the most desired options are iOS and Android with share of 35 percent and 28 percent respectively. A less significant number went for RIM BlackBerry (13 percent) and Windows Mobile (6 percent). The Nielsen study also found that among U.S. mobile phone users, 29.7 percent own a smartphone. This is the highest recorded figure till date. The study was conducted in the period of August through October on 9,200 people in U.S.
