Camcorders
In 1963, Ampex introduces the world's first 'home' video system, the VR-1500 video recorder. The camera and the TV monitor were large, expensive and not very practical for home at all. Then came the Portabacks, which worked on the similar fashion like the Ampex, but on a smaller scale. But it had problems while loading the film, as the film would get spoilt if by chance exposed to light. Another challenge was to edit, for which you had to run it through the machine to get the exact location, and then cut the film -with a razor-and scotch-tape it back together.
In 1982, JVC brought their camera-recorder or camcorder, to which Sony answered by bringing out the freeze-frame technology to produce still photos. The race got tighter as the technology got better and a whole new world of possibilities opened up for digital camcorders. The industry developed cameras with sharper lenses, wider digital bandwidth, faster data rates, more storage space, and more pixels. The year 2000 brought with it the new video format and the initial camcorder, quietly left its throne.
