Fortinet's cloud security to help mobile internet business
Bangalore: There is an unprecedented growth in the number of mobile phone users in India who access Internet via their cellphones. The country, now boasts of about 29.7 crore GSM connections, with the addition of around 90 lakh GSM mobile users during April 2009. The amplified GSM connections in the country also cause an increase in the security threat for network connections. To shore up the network security infrastructure in India, Fortinet has come up with the cloud based security solution named Fortigate, a multi-threat security platform. The solution integrates new threat resistance products, which incorporates new functionalities to help the enterprises better protect their own networks as well as the networks of their customers. It will also help the mobile internet businesses to better ensure the protection of their data. Vishak Raman, Country Sales Manager (India) of Fortinet said, "The explosion of mobile threats in India will bring in a booming market for the cloud security services." The newly launched solution secures voice-over-IP infrastructures and mobile operator content. Also, Raman says,"India is a bandwidth hungry market for". So an increase in the bandwidth will require better security solutions, offering a huge business opportunity for companies specializing in network security. But, the mobile phone industries in India are not so confident about the credibility of the cloud-based security service products. The President of Mast mobile Media, Vijay Parthasarathy says,"The security threats for the bandwidth exist since ages, and it is quite high. So I'm not sure whether the cloud based security will work or not." Fortinet also plans to expand its operations in India and hopes to hire around 50 people in its Indian subsidiary by the year end.
