Bangalore: After the mega deal with Aircel, Wipro Infotech has won a multi-million deal, strengthening its domestic market presence as it is outstretched for many years. Spencers Retail has given this IT outsourcing firm a five-year pitch for providing infrastructure management services.
The deal has secured Wipro's revenue visibility for a long term. This showcases the expansion in the domestic deals, despite it being more volume driven. According to the deal, the company shall manage the retail outlet's client's application and data center operation. As said by Anil Jain, VP Corporate Business, Wipro Infotech, "Most of retailers are increasing number of stores and they are looking for IT partners to transform and handle their growth. Spencer's will be rolling out 600 stores in the next six months. Our services will help them in expediting the process and would also translate into cost savings in the long run."
This division of Wipro, focused on India and other Asia-Pacific countries, contributes about 18.8 percent of the group's overall revenues. Established in 1979, Spencer Retail has a current turn over of $3.25 billion. Currently it operates 400 stores in 66 cities and has further plans of adding another 1000 by 2010. Infosys has earned 11.8 percent of its total revenues from retail, last year.
