FIFA World Cup: 5 Worst Fouls In Football History!

Zinedine Zidane 2006 head butt:

Former French skipper Zinedine Zidane, who holds legendary status in France as a member of the national teams that won the 1998 World Cup and euro 2000, was sent off in the 2006 World Cup final for headbutting Marco Materazzi in the chest. It is undoubtedly the most controversial exit the sport has ever seen. That was the then France captain's last ever professional match as a player and he later claimed he had reacted to slurs the Italian directed against his sister and mother. To immortalize this act of Zidane, it has been transformed into a giant statue and displayed in front of the Pompidou Centre in Paris. He was fined 7,500 Swiss francs and handed a three-match ban, but as he had retired from playing, he had to do three days of community service for FIFA instead.

Frank Rijkaard 1990 Spat:

As hostilities between Holland and Germany boiled over at the 1990 World Cup in Italy, Netherlands midfielder Frank Rijkaard spat into Rudi Voller's mullet not once but twice. During the second round match, Netherlands player Frank Rijkaard was whistled for a penalty against German player Rudi Voller that Rijkaard believed he didn’t commit. Angered by the call, Rijkaard spit from behind in Voller’s hair.

Voller’s teammate saw the attack and reported it to a referee who penalized Rijkaard again. Rijkaard reacted angrily yet again, pulling the hair of the German player who showed the referee. Later in the game, Voller was caught provoking the Netherland’s goalie. Rijkaard, still furious over what happened, pulled Voller’s ear and spit at his neck again. Voller and Rijkaard began to fight but the brawl was broken up quickly and the players were thrown out of the game. On his way to the locker room, Rijkaard spit one last time at Voller. He was later suspended for three games.
