FCC to expand oversight of Internet Providers

Bloomberg: As a move towards crafting net-neutrality regulations, The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is going to spread out supervision of Internet service providers. FCC will use the rules imposed on telephone companies, reports Todd Shields for BusinessWeek.
According to an agenda by the agency, FCC will vote on taking public comment on a proposal made by Chairman Julius Genachowski on June 17.
To prohibit internet providers from interfering with subscribers' Web traffic, Genachowski wants the FCC to assert jurisdiction over Internet service providers like Comcast and AT&T to have authority for rules.
According to Genachowski, one of three Democrats on the five-member agency, only a modest authority is to be provided by the plan, which FCC needs. However, the two Republican FCC commissioners called Genachowski's proposal "an attempt to foist burdensome rules" on industry.
