Bangalore: Last weekend sent the world in a tizzy when the news appeared that social network giant, Facebook will be closing down in March. The news was reported by Weekly World News that has the tag line 'The World's Only Reliable News'. However, the news on Facebook didn't turn out to be reliable at all. And no, Facebook is not shutting down, thus putting rumors to rest.
Even then the news (or rumor) was palpitating enough to earn itself the tag of an Internet hoax. It stated that Facebook was closing down as Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook Co-Founder said that managing the site was becoming stressful for him. It quote Zuckerberg saying, "Facebook has gotten out of control, and the stress of managing this company has ruined my life. I need to put an end to all the madness."
The Weekly World News also added that Facebook had asked users to remove all their photos and personal information from the website by March 15th as they will be permanently erased after that.
A distraught Facebook was then required to give the users a statement assuring that the website is not going to close down. It updated its status on the Facebook page saying, "We didn't get the memo about shutting down, so we'll keep working away like always. We aren't going anywhere; we're just getting started."
So to all those who actually fell for the hoax, well here is the truth!
