Bangalore: Facebook has unveiled new features which will provide its 500 million users more control over personal information and let them make cliques of friends, a change in the existing phase of social networking especially group interactivity. The social networking site revamped its Groups feature, created a new tool called "Download Your Information," and rehauled its dashboard to allow users to better understand what data their Facebook applications are using. Although Facebook members can already separate their friends into lists, such as by family or co-workers, only 5 percent did so, leaving much of the information they shared open to their entire network of friends. The new "Groups" feature makes it easier for its half-billion users to interact with select circles of friends, instead of having photos and personal messages openly viewable to family, college buddies and colleagues alike. "If we can do this, we can unlock a huge amount of sharing that people want to do, but don't think they can do because it is either too annoying or there aren't the right privacy settings," says Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg. The change which will allow users to map their offline life to the online world through small groups will also allow them to download all the data they have uploaded onto the site. The ability for users to download a backup of all of their Facebook data is an improved application management so that users know what permissions they have given to each app. The feature will begin rolling out on Wednesday, October 6. To take advantage of the new tool, one can go to "Account," then "Account Settings" followed by "Learn more" next to the "Download Your Information" option. After this, click the green "Download" button. The person will be notified through email when information is ready for download.
