Exposed: Tech CEO's Do-Not-Hire Code
Intel on Google hiring
Paul Otellini wrote a mail to Gabrielle Thompson (whose last position at Intel was director, global staffing operations), talking about a handshake agreement with Google over an anti-poaching policy. “Let me clarify. We have nothing signed. We have a handshake "no recruit" between Eric and myself. I would not like this to be broadly known.”
Pixar to Apple
Pixar was recruiting an Apple personnel and sought permission from Steve Jobs, who once held a majority stake in the animation studio. Here goes the email exchange:
Steve
An Apple employee has applied for the job of project coordinator, which is basically an administrative assistant to our project managers. Since she's a support person instead of an engineer, I'm hoping this won't be a problem. Would it be OK for us to make her an offer?
Rob
In reply, Jobs simply mailed:
Yea, it's fine. The key is to stay away from the engineers.
