CHANDIGARH: IT conclave e-Revolution must touch all aspect of our life whether it is agriculture, genetics, or nanotechnology, to bring about an inclusive growth, Punjab Governor and UT Chandigarh Administrator Shivraj V Patil said at the IT conclave here.
In his inaugural speech, he asked private sector to invest in research, set up universities beyond the metros and cities and to pave way for the dissemination of knowledge.
Patil called upon IT professionals to find solutions for the agriculture sector and management of land and irrigation to prevent wastage of water since this is one sector on which 60 percent of economy is based.
The technology must reach the larger chunk of our population beyond urban areas to enable its effective and efficient use, he added.
Earlier Shankar Aggarwal, Additional Secretary, Department of Information Technology commented on the need to improve the education system which is currently based more on acquisition of knowledge rather than on application of knowledge.
Listing out various initiatives undertaken by the Government of India to provide various citizen services, Aggarwal said E-Governance is being strengthened in the country by setting up 100,000 common service centers for online submission of applications, besides delivering citizen services through a mobile service delivery gateway which is being setup.
S S Channy, Principle Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Govt of Punjab, listed out various initiatives that the government has taken to become one of the best facilitators in the country, including E-Tendering and E-Auctioning services and a proactive industrial, IT and SEZ policies.
The Govt of Punjab, he said, has made special efforts to identify various pockets for encouraging IT/ITeS industry and there is no dearth of land anymore for those who want to invest in the state.
