EMC strengthens its India center with GCC and CIRC

Bangalore: EMC Corporation, the global provider of information infrastructure solutions, inaugurated its second Global Command Center (GCC) and Critical Incident Response Center (CIRC) at its India Center of Excellence (CoE) based in Bangalore. The company states that the new Bangalore GCC and CIRC will be mirroring EMC's existing facilities located in the U.S. and thus will enable the company to employ a 24x7x365 delivery model of service and support.
Prior to the inauguration, Sanjay Mirchandani, Senior Vice President, EMC Corporation, spoke extensively about the company's entry into the private cloud as well as its plans and strategies. "The GCC and CIRC play a pivotal role in EMC IT's journey to the private cloud. Both centers use leading EMC information infrastructure products to deliver world class IT service management and response capabilities. They also help us build even better products for customers because they provide us with real-life use cases and best practices as they consider implementing our products into their own IT environments," he said.
EMC's IT organization is transforming its operations to improve customer focus, create business agility, and deliver operational efficiencies to the business. To achieve these goals, EMC IT is embracing the private cloud approach to IT infrastructure - deployed on EMC's technology and solutions.
EMC IT defines the private cloud as a fully virtualized next-generation IT infrastructure comprising both internal and external clouds that enables efficiency, control, and choice for the internal IT organization. By transitioning to a private cloud-based IT infrastructure, EMC IT will offer its end-users - the various business units inside EMC - end-to-end IT solutions delivered as a service.
The GCC currently supports IT services for EMC's more than 45,000 internal users, as well as the company's vendors, partners, and customers on EMC websites in over 80 countries in 400 offices worldwide. It provides around-the-clock monitoring and management of the company's global virtual and physical data center ecosystem across networks, storage systems, servers, and applications. This enables EMC's Global IT department to identify issues before they become problems and accelerate diagnosis and resolution of issues in the IT infrastructure. The GCC leverages EMC and VMWare technology to manage EMC's private cloud infrastructure.
The Critical Incident Response Center is aimed at protecting its employees, customers, facilities and information assets. The EMC CIRC provides proactive global threat monitoring, data leakage prevention, and comprehensive security incidents response and protection to the EMC corporate enterprise. The center uses technologies from both EMC and its RSA Security Division to centrally monitor and protect EMC's operations. With a single integrated view of the global enterprise, security analysts in the U.S. and India can provide advice and guidance to EMC management.
Sarv Saravanan, Vice President and Managing Director, EMC India Center of Excellence said, "It has been one year since EMC inaugurated the new, centralized India COE in Bangalore which joins together research and development and EMC Global Services organizations. The opening of the GCC and CIRC is another significant milestone along our journey. With the inauguration of these centers, our employees globally will continue to receive the highest quality service and standards to drive business results."
In September 2009, EMC announced an additional investment sum of $1.5 billion for the India COE, illustrating the important role India will play in the company's long-term strategic plans for Asia Pacific & Japan and its global growth. The centers, namely GCC and CIRC are a part of this investment.
