Diaspora, the new entrant in SNS; to compete with Facebook
Washington: There is a new kid on the social network service block. Diaspora, a new social networking site has been launched by four U.S. students, Daniel Grippi, Maxwell Salzberg, Raphael Sofaer and Ilya Zhitomirskiy. The site differentiates itself by providing ease of use and stricter policies for privacy. The site is not officially launched to public yet. Meanwhile, the version is offered to developers who can develop and work on applications for the site. One of the founding members of Diaspora shared in the project site, "This is now a community project and development open to anyone with the technical expertise who shares the vision of a social network that puts users in control." The Diaspora has a gray and white interface with icons representing users, much like on Facebook. The New York University student programmers are boasting their innovation to be "privacy aware, personally controlled, do-it-all, open source social network". This comes as a direct dig at the social networking giant Facebook, which has been facing many privacy related complaints in the recent times. And the site may just be able to attract users courtesy the privacy flaws of Facebook.
