Despite banning Blackberry, Torch will release in UAE
Dubai: Even after banning Blackberry services, UAE is posed to get the latest model of the smartphone, Torch. Research In Motion (RIM) announced the Torch would be available in the UAE from October, reported The National newspaper. "It's business as usual for us. This is the first time a major RIM device is being released in the region so shortly after it becomes available in the U.S.", said a spokeswoman for RIM. The report of the Torch's release in UAE is ironic as it comes after UAE announced that the key Blackberry services-messenger, web browsing and email- will be suspended from October 11 as they "allow individuals to commit violations" that the country cannot monitor. Mohammed al-Ghanem, Director General, UAE's Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) however said, "We remain open to discussions in order that an acceptable, regulatory-complaint solution might be developed and applied".
