Bangalore: In an effort to make online advertisements less annoying to the web users, companies like Microsoft, Yahoo and Hulu are offering the users to select those ads they will view. This decision will be put in practice from next month. Websites that include MSNBC.com, Yahoo.com, and Hulu.com will have users choose which ads show up in video clips they view online. In a research done by Vivaki, the digital arm of French advertising company Publicis Group, users are twice as likely to click an ad when given a choice, as opposed to when one is selected for them. Beth Uyenco Shatto, Global Research Director at Microsoft's ads unit says, "When you give people a choice, they tend to love you because you're showing them respect." The ad-selecting tool is called ASq. This may further the development of the online advertising market, specially the global video ads market. This will also help websites command higher rates while letting marketers attract more eyeballs and improve consumer targeting. The new tool ASq is being lapped up by many websites like CBS.com, AOL.com, Discovery.com and others.
