Czech to start R&D collaboration with Indian universities

Hyderabad: The Czech Republic's University of West Bohemia and India's Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to forge research collaborations between these universities. "Czech Republic is keen on starting research collaboration with Indian universities and institutes," said Premysl Sobotka, Chairman of that Senate of the Czech Republic. Speaking at a function to mark the signing of the MoU here on Tuesday, he said that there is a huge scope for collaboration in the manufacturing sector. "The thrust could be on education, research and cooperation with the industry," said Josef Prusa, Vice-Chancellor of University of West Bohemia. There was considerable interest among the education and research institutes in the Czech Republic towards collaboration with Indian counterparts, he added. Jiri Zapletal, Chief Executive Officer of Skoda Holding, said that with the new initiative, both the countries could share the expertise on technology pertaining to the emissions and manufacturing of power plant equipment. K Rajagopal, Vice-Chancellor, JNTU, said the university was ready to establish good research contacts with Skoda and the University of West Bohemia. The Czech Republic has 26 public and 43 private institutions offering higher education.
