Cypress licenses ARM's IP elements

Bangalore: Cypress, a semiconductor design and manufacturing company has licensed a range of intellectual property (IP) from ARM, a microprocessor IP provider for use in next-generation programmable platforms. Cypress has licensed the ARM CortexM3 and ARM9 family processors, along with more than 75 other IP elements. "The combination of the Cortex-M3 processor's credentials with the flexibility of Cypress's embedded platform technology provides system designers with an ideal solution for a wide variety of applications, including, automotive and industrial control systems, white goods, electronic toys and medical instrumentation," said Eric Schorn, Vice President Marketing, Processor Division at ARM. Cypress is a programmable solutions provider, using a SONOS manufacturing process that delivers mixed-signal integration. The company also offers programmable controllers for touch sensing and touch screens, programmable clocks, and programmable LED controllers. "This partnership with ARM expands the potential range of programmable solutions we can make available to customers with the twin benefits of high performance and industry-standard architectures," said Norm Taffe, Executive Vice President of Consumer and Computation Division at Cypress.
