Controversial Tweets That Made Headlines
Shashi Tharoor (September 2009):
Former United Nations bureaucrat-turned-Indian-politician, Shashi Tharoor will be best remembered for the “cattle class” remark made on twitter. In this twitter remark, he said he would travel “Absolutely, in cattle class out of solidarity with all our holy cows!” This stirs uproar among all the masses and even caused a lot of embarrassment to the ruling party at the centre. In a response to a tweet on government's austerity drive, Tharoor had to apologize for hurting the sentiments of economy class passengers.
Shobhaa De (March 2011):
Famous Author and Columnist Shobha De once declared former President Abdul Kalam dead in her tweet. Shobha De in one of her Tweet said, "India salutes its greatest president! Dr. Abdul Kalam brought rare grace, courage, dignity and simplicity to Rashtrapati Bhavan. RIP." However, soon after the news that Kalam death was a rumour, the writer hurriedly apologized to Kalam through Twitter as she Tweeted, "A thousands apologies. Our beloved former President is alive and well. Jiyo hazaaron sal. Maaafi chhaiye."
