Bangalore: With an aim to increase its presence, networking giant Cisco has decided to expand in Orissa by joining hands with the state government. The government in Orissa is planning to implement internal automation to reduce the time of service delivery and Cisco intends to provide the networking solution for this purpose.
The company is also holding talks with the industry and Information Technology (IT) Department of Orissa to expand its base level course to higher secondary schools, polytechnics, engineering colleges across the state. "Cisco has tied up with nine institutions in Orissa under its networking academy initiative," said Lokesh Mehra, Regional Manager, Corporate Responsibility-South Asia, Cisco. According to Mehra, the company will focus on service and building manpower in the state.
Continuing in its efforts to enter different districts in the state, Cisco intends to go out of Bhubaneswar to make its curriculum available to the students in other parts of the state. Mukti Misra, Chairman, Centurion Group of Institution (CGI) said, "The implementation of the state wide area network (SWAN) will require large number of networking professionals. Since the local people will be recruited by the companies, they need to be trained."
