Cisco reappoints Arun Sarin to its board

Bangalore: Arun Sarin, the former CEO of Vodafone Group has been re-appointed to the board of Cisco, having previously served on Cisco's board from 1998 to 2003. Welcoming him back, Cisco Chairman and CEO, John Chambers, said, "His lifelong experience and leadership within the global telecommunications sector will be invaluable to Cisco. No one knows mobility and telecommunications better than Arun and we're glad to have him rejoin our board." Sarin, 54, was CEO of Vodafone from 2003 until July of 2008. Prior to that, he led Accel-KKR Telecom; InfoSpace and AirTouch International all as CEO. He is also a Director of Safeway. As a member, he will receive a pro rata portion of the $75,000 annual retainer, $2,000 per committee meeting attended and 16,666 shares, today worth $22.23 per share, or $370,485.18. He resigned from Vodafone in July 2008 after five years in the job and two years after surviving boardroom revolt institutional investors had voted against his re-election to the board, accusing him of being too quick to spend millions of pounds on foreign acquisitions. Other notables on Cisco's board include Carol A Bartz, CEO of Yahoo!; Brian L Halla, Chairman and CEO of National Semiconductor; John L Hennessy, President of Stanford University; Richard M Kovacevich, Chairman of Wells Fargo; Roderick C McGeary, Chairman of BearingPoint and Jerry Yang, Co-founder and 'Chief Yahoo!' at Yahoo!
