Company Bill and RPF Bill
Company Bill and RPF Bill The government will pass the new Companies Bill in the Budget, which was robustly opposed by the Opposition and UPA ally Trinamool Congress in the winter session of the Parliament. The Bill will bring in new rules, covering areas such as corporate social responsibility (CSR), class action suits and a fixed term for independent directors. It also intends to constrict laws for raising money from the public. The Bill also seems to do strong insider trading check by company directors or key managerial personnel by treating such activities as a criminal offence. Railway Protection Force (RPF), the one and only body accountable for passenger security is likely to be introduced in the Budget session of Parliament. The Railway Protection Force (Amendment) Bill, 2011 also requests withdrawal of Government Railway Police from railway premises and empowering the RPF with policing power to deal with crime cases, including drugging and robberies in trains and stations. If the Parliament passes this legislation, it will be for the first time that a paramilitary force will be given policing powers in the country.
