New Delhi: Taking on its private counterparts, BSNL in collaboration with Polymer, a telecommunication service provider, is all set to roll out a telepresnce solution by next month. This would be a prospective avenue for the company for higher revenue growth. The infrastructure already is deployed at the BSNL's New Delhi headquarter. Currently, Telepresence solutions from Polycom, called 'RealPresence' have a seating capacity of six to thirty though it varies in the usual cost is 20, 000 - 25,000 per hour for renting. Telepresence provides life-like, high definition conferencing facilities with superior audio, video and environmental qualities to provide a viable alternative to traditional face-to-face meetings. Businesses can achieve substantial cost savings through reducing travel while accelerating productivity, and improving long-distance collaboration and decision making. In addition, they can significantly increase employee satisfaction with this "smart technology" by enabling executives to have meetings in the comfort of their own offices. Telepresence also promotes environmental benefits, such as decreased CO2 emission from reduction in travel. Thus, it will be an eco-friendly step to lift up the prospects of the company, as business of such solutions is booming for both the telecom companies and the network firms by renting them out to enterprises and generating additional revenues. And it also has an edge over video-conferencing as the latter along with its lack of quality also faces the consequence of being expensive. Even Tata Communications and Cisco have jointly ventured into the telepresence arena.
