Sellotape is a British brand of transparent, cellulose-based, pressure sensitive adhesive tape. It is used for joining, sealing, attaching and mending. The name 'sellophane' was derived from 'cellophane film', with the "C" being changed to "S", so that a new name would be trademarked. In 1937, Colin Kinimonth and George Gray coined the name 'sellotape'. It has become a generic name, and is frequently used to refer to other adhesive tapes in many countries, due to its market exposure.
