Aspirin
Aspirin, also known as acetylsalicylic acid, is often used as an analgesic to relieve minor aches and pains, as an antipyretic to reduce fever, and as an anti-inflammatory medication.
As part of war compensations specified in the 1919 Treaty of Versailles (following Germany's surrender after World War I), Aspirin lost its status as a registered trademark in France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, where it became a generic name. Today, "Aspirin" is a generic word in Australia, France, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Pakistan, Jamaica, the Philippines, South Africa, United Kingdom and the United States.
