Indian cinema's most successful and iconic filmmaker, Yash Chopra has had a vibrant journey of directing movies for Bollywood. His films explored the depth of human relationships that gave the silver screen several epic love stories. He was rightly coined as ‘the king of romance’ as he directed several legendary tales. From movies like Chandni, Silsila, Deewar, Daag: A Poem of Love to Darr, Veer Zaara and Jab Tak Hain Jaan, Yash Chopra’s devotion for making love stories never trimmed down. The BAFTA has presented him with a lifetime membership award for his contribution to the films which made him the first Indian to receive the honor.

Shyam Benegal

Talented director Shyam Benegal has gone beyond all odds to blur the line between commercial and parallel cinema. He was successful in creating a new genre in Hindi cinema which is called ‘middle cinema’ in India. Benegal is one of the rarest of rare directors of Bollywood. His prominent films like Ankur, Nishant, Manthan, Bhumika and Dev have indirectly portrayed Benegal’s thoughts that have been very daring with themes that defy conservative forms. His films have mainly revolved around contemporary hard truths.
