This was a highly controversial movie that instigated the right wing group to protest against the movie. The story is based on the lesbian relationship between two sisters- in-law, Shabana Azmi and Nandita Das. This hurt the cultural feelings of the people and there was a conception if people may get influenced to such lifestyle. Deepa Mehta for sure did a great job but should have thought what actually Indian audience would like. The film was banned in many cities across India.
