Bangalore: The demand for netbooks is fading out these days and this is the reason why Asus is calling back its netbook shipments. The third quarter saw Asus shipping 1.4 million units of netbook as compared to 1.5 million and 1.6 million in the previous quarters.
The CEO of Asus, Jerry Shen, however, puts the blame of the falling demand of netbooks on the Apple iPad. According to him, iPad is 'cannibalizing' the sales of netbooks.
There might be another possible explanation for this state of the netbooks. And the reason could be the availability of notebooks at heavily discounted prices. Moreover, there is also the case of stagnation of netbook hardware.
However, the good news for Asus is that it will increase the shipments of laptops and motherboards for the third quarter.
