Apple, Google CEOs in Secret Talks

Bangalore: Things around Silicon Valley’s two tech Giants, Apple and Google are taking a new twist as it has been reported that the chief executives of both the companies, Larry Page and Tim Cook are conducting serious backstage talks about intellectual property matters and disputes.

According to Reuters, Page and Cook had a phone conversation last week and the discussions involving lower-level officials of the big time rivals are going on. According to sources close to the information, the executives had postponed second round of meeting, which had been scheduled for Friday, due to unknown reasons.

Things are not clear as both Google and Apple did not disclose any details about meetings. One possible scenario could be settling the disputes on Google’s Android operating system, which Apple’s late CEO, Steve Jobs once accused as “stolen product.”

Steve Jobs even vowed that he would go to “thermonuclear war” to kill Android. But the operating system had since become the most popular one in the world.

Even though the companies never engaged in an open debate on Android in recent years, the latest court verdict against Samsung, the biggest Android phone maker, had supposedly fueled the discussions. Google had declared that it has nothing to do with the last week’s verdict, however, it was viewed as a “proxy war” between Apple and Google.

Google and Apple, a good business buddies in the past had parted their ways following the debut of Google into mobile space. Apple has recently started avoiding reliance on Google’s products on its platforms and even removed Google Maps, and discontinued providing YouTube app with its iPhone.

A bunch of patent battles are also ongoing between the companies, latest being a complaint from Motorola Mobility, which is now a part of Google, accusing Apple of infringing some of its patents.
