Apple gives in, allows Flash for iOS apps
Bangalore: "The mobile era is about low power devices, touch interfaces and open web standards - all areas where Flash falls short," wrote Apple's CEO, Steve Jobs back in April, 2010 on the company's official website justifying why Apple doesn't allow Flash on iPhone. In a few months' time now, Apple announced that it is relaxing App Store restrictions that banned developers from using app conversion tools like Appcelerator's Titanium, Unity 3D, and most importantly, Adobe's Flash-to-iPhone compiler in Flash CS5, writes Devindra Hardawar from VentureBeat. However, the converted apps cannot download any code. "This should give developers the flexibility they want, while preserving the security we need," Apple wrote. Apple further tries to capture the minds of the users stating that the company will publish its App Store Review Guidelines so that developers know exactly how their apps are reviewed. Apple's move has been seen as an attempt to answer the criticisms it had to face in regards to banning all the conversion tools including Flash. The decision came in at a time when Google's Android platform is quickly gaining in popularity, and many developers would likely want to use conversion tools to bring their apps to Android, other mobile devices, and web app platforms.
