Apple emerges leader in portable PC market

Bangalore: The popularity of Apple iPad has helped Apple to become the top portable PC maker in the industry. Apple is selling more portable computers than any of the other manufacturer. Apple sold 17.2 percent of mobile computers worldwide in October- December quarter, as per DisplaySearch estimates.
HP comes second in the top five PC manufacturers list, while Acer, Dell and Toshiba comes third, fourth and fifth position respectively.
There are various reasons for the emerging popularity of Apple iPad. It has the easy facility of browsing or checking mail even on the road. They are much thinner and lighter and it has a longer battery life.
But it is still a debatable topic whether the iPad can be counted as a computer and if people are buying more phones instead of computers. But the fact is that the sales of personal computers are coming down because many consumers already have their PC and they just tend to replace them with new form factor devices.
