Agilent bullish on India

HYDERABAD: USA based Agilent Technologies, makers of test & measurement technologies solutions for communications, electronics, life sciences & chemical industry is bullish about its growth in India both for its hardware and software activities.
The $7.2 billion company, known for its test & measurement tools and solutions sees India as a major destination for its testing and measurement hardware (products) apart from software engineering and research development activities.
Shankar Roy Chowdhury, marketing head of test & measurement group said the company will witness a 200% growth in its manpower, particularly in Agilent Technologies International Private Limited, the software, engineering, products and research & development centre of the company.
We are currently looking at 200% growth in our manpower, particularly in the software development division as the Indian centre is involved in designing, developing new software products and tools for the parent in the US in a cost-effective way, Chowdhury said. We expect the Indian operations to get more and more prominent development activities at a later date, he added.
Keeping in mind the growth in manpower, the company is setting up its third centre at Gurgaon to accommodate about 600 associates. We expect the centre to be ready in the next six to eight months, he said. Similarly, the company will also weigh the option of opening up another development centre in the southern region, he added.
Agilent holds 42% market share in India as against world average of 38% in the test and measurement hardware and support services. The Indian market has been estimated at around Rs 400 crore, he said. All the major communication (convergence) companies, defence establishments, defence services and pharma companies are our customers, he said adding: India will be the potential market for Agilent T&M products.
80% of the mobile phones in the world are tested through our test & measurement hardware and tools and every mobile carries 15 to 20% components of Agilent, he pointed out. We help customers design, manufacture and deploy new products and technologies with advanced electronics test, measurement and monitoring solutions, Chowdhury said.
According to him, the companys life sciences and chemical analysis business helps identify, qualify, analyse and test the chemical and biological properties of substances. Companies such as Dr Reddys and Ranbaxy are among the pharma majors that are using our testing solutions and products, he said.
Agilent covers a broad spectrum of industries ranging from defence, defence services, defence research and development, space to pharma, electronics hardware, chemical analysis and convergence sectors.
In addition to providing software designing, products development and support services in the above areas, Agilent Technologies International will leverage its expertise in high-quality and cost-effective software and transaction processing talent in radio frequency and digital technologies, Chowdhury said.
Of the total business of Agilent worldwide, Asia contributes around 30% and particularly India and China hold huge potential for the companys test and measurement tools and products, he added.
