Bangalore: Aerospace engineers of Honeywell are coming up with new ideas to improve the avionic systems in plane after they were trained to fly planes to expose them and understand how systems work inside a plane. The first batch of engineers who passed out the training in August has already come up with three new product ideas. The company has tried with Andhra Pradesh Aviation Academy (APAA) in Hyderabad for the pilot training reports Bhargavi Kerur, bhargavi.k for Mint. The company is currently spending about 15 lakh for an engineer and has plans of training about 60 engineers over the next five years. "The entire perspective changed when I took flying lessons. I realized that the systems we so logically design have to be intuitive in nature to help the pilot make decisions in seconds to maneuver the aircraft," said the engineer, who now has 20 hours of flying experience and a student pilot license. Honeywell, which is a U.S. based technology company, hires about 2,600 aerospace engineers from India. They deal with products like communication, navigation and surveillance systems, flight display systems, and flight control and management systems. One of the best innovations from India, Bangalore centre was the terrain mapping system which provides visual images for cruising and landing in difficult weather conditions.
