The era of information technology has been redefined by stressing on the fact that data is king whereas social platforms are a source of business intelligence and cloud computing as a driving factor of business growth. In the light of this definition The Accenture Technology Vision 2011 has identified eight emerging trends that question prolonged speculation about IT. The report recommends 'action steps' to be followed by giant businesses and governments to mold the computing world. In support of these trends, Gavin Michael, Managing Director of R&D and alliances, Accenture, said, "We took a look around the corner and saw a world of IT that barely resembles what enterprise computing looks like today." Elaborating further he said "The role of technology changing; it is no longer in a support role. Instead, it is front and center driving business performance and enriching people's lives like never before." The report emphasized that "viewing everything through an application lens is coming to an end"rather the IT firms will choose platform architectures to handle voluminous data and the complexity of data management which otherwise can't support applications. One trend that marked the transition of IT departments and business users followed over decades is that the tried and true relational databases will not be deserted but soon they will pave the way for other types of databases like streaming databases. Michael also formed the idea of software reusability and said, "The roles of application and data will be reversed, with data becoming the platform that supports application services. Business leaders, as such, will be encouraged to reframe their IT orientation around the idea of data platforms." He envisaged also the transition of social media into social platforms. This implies that company websites may longer be the first port of call for customers. In this way the procedure through which the companies do business will be modified and pose new challenges and opportunities for IT. Unlike the conventional method of getting information of an individual from the corporate website the business people can exploit the vast pool of information left in their social networks. On the concrete technological front the report said that cloud computing will be brought with larger dimension in which the hybrid clouds, software as a service (SaaS) and platform as a service (PaaS) in combination with internal applications will drive business growth with IT as the leader. There will be a wider change in the degree of delivering functionality and flexibility. This will occur owing to the change in focus from simple infrastructure solutions to developing cloud strategies. The cloud strategies will work by coupling cloud-based application with platform services. Despite all the challenges, cloud strategies will definitely work for the better tomorrow of enterprise computing.
