Acer new notebooks to ride on 8 hours battery backup
Bangalore: Betting big on the aspect of battery backup, Acer, the third largest PC vendor after Dell and HP, has unveiled its Aspire Timeline notebooks. The company asserts more than eight hours of battery backup for the new notebooks, which heralds Acer's entry into ultra-thin and ultra-light notebook market. "We hope to tab 40 percent market share by the end of this quarter," said Mukund Walvekar, Managing Director, Acer India. Based on an Ultra-Low Voltage Intel Core 2 solo processor, the Acer Timeline is equipped with thermal management system that allows the system to be cool despite its 0.8 inch size and 1.6 kg (3.5 lb) weight. The price of the Timeline series ranges from 38,000 to 44,000. "We are two quarters ahead in terms of the technology we have used for the Timeline series and no other player in the field would be able to customize such a notebook for another five months," said S Rajendran, Chief Marketing Officer, Acer India. Apart from targeting the consumer market, the company also eye augmenting the educational revenues, which comprise of 18 percent of the total revenue of the PC maker. However, the adoption of better and affordable computing systems for the education sector is yet to gain momentum due to the slackened approval process. "It takes time for new technology to enter the education sector. The computing systems that basically target the government agencies and the education sector is yet to make a mark as it is not yet approved by the AICTE," said Walvekar.
