Acer launches first Netbook based on Google OS
Bangalore: Acer has launched its dual operating system (OS) netbook, Aspire One D250, in India, Acer Aspire One D250 boots in Android and Windows XP operating systems. Acer AOD250 has special dual-boot feature that allows the netbook to boot in either Android or Windows XP. Acer boasts of the 18-second boot up and three second shut down. Apart from this instant on boot up, the netbook also features Acer-customized Firefox browser along with other pre-installed applications. The netbook is powered by 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 processor with 512KB L2 cache and 667FSB paired with Intel Mobile 9456SE chipset. With integrated Intel GMA 950 graphics, the netbook has 1GB DDR2 RAM and 160GB HDD for storage. Apart from the technical aspects, this Android based OS failed to utilize the complete power of the Android. Users who are familiar with the Android OS on smartphone will find many similarities. Android on phones is a powerful, highly customizable OS with a growing selection of third-party apps. On Acer's dual-OS Aspire One D250, it's just a basic front-end for quick web, and music and photo media access. The OS here isn't on par with Windows, in terms of functionality or role. The look of the Android UI is very refreshing, but this is definitely not the best that Android can bring for the netbook. Acer Aspire One D250 is available for 18,599.
