Bangalore: Micro venture capital firm Aavishkaar India has invested 1 crore in Hyderabad based Zameen Organic, an organic cotton trading company. The amount will be invested in strengthening its sales teams in the U.S, Europe and India, reports VCCircle. "In order to maximize farmer benefits, we aim to go main stream and hit the high street. We have earmarked a large proportion of this funding for the support of our sales teams across U.S, Europe and India," said Satish Chukkapalli, Director, Zameen. He added that the fund will accelerate initial growth of the company and scale up the farming societies which govern the company. The company works with the farmers to develop business plans and new product range. According to the company, the fresh cash inflow will help to launch new range of food early next year, which includes dhal among others. "Zameen was a perfect fit with their investment portfolio as both the companies believe in producer ownership and their commitment to the management team," commented Vineet Rai, Director, Aavishkaar. Zameen harvested around 374 tonnes of organic cotton lint from its farms in Maharastra and Andhra Pradesh last season.
