5) Power Projects for want of fuel:
The acute shortage in domestic coal, gas and increase in prices of imported coal for power projects and also the delay in environment and forest clearances have made the power industry sober and discouraged. Policy reforms for power distribution companies and duty on imported power equipment has been some important questions discussed with Manmohan Singh. The Manmohan Singh government has agreed to raise the supplies from CIL and fast track the environment nod.
"CIL has now told us that the new fuel supply agreements will be signed within a month and we would get at least 80 percent of the committed supplies, failing which they would pay penalties," said a power company official who is waiting to sign a fuel agreement. CIL has been instructed to first meet the demand of the power sector before e-auctioning coal in the open market reported ET.
