Zenith launches low-cost laptops

BANGALORE: Home-grown computer maker Zenith Computers Ltd on Wednesday launched a series of low cost laptops to take on multinational firms in domestic enterprise and consumer laptop market which is growing at nearly 200 per cent. Zenith Computers chairman and managing director Raj Saraf told reporters here the firm plans to sell 15,000 units of the seven new laptops priced between Rs 35,000 and Rs 90,000 this fiscal, almost trebling the 2,700 units sold during 2003-04 when its first branded laptop was introduced. "Zenith is targeting revenues of Rs 350 crore during 2004-05 as against Rs 285 crore reported last fiscal," he said. "We will be doubling our market share from three per cent last year, and laptop sales which contributed five per cent to last year's revenues would double this fiscal," Saraf said. Several institutional customers including Siemens, SBI, Indian Business School and Sony India are customers for Zenith laptops.
