ZTE plans to invest 
88 Crore in India for VAS

New Delhi: Considering the enormous potential for value added services (VAS) in India, ZTE, China based telecom equipment maker is planning to invest about 
88 crore in Indian market.
ZTE's VAS brand AnyService provides applications like localization based services, mobile newspaper, enterprise and messaging services and voice applications. "India accounted for one-tenth of ZTE's VAS revenue in 2009. We see a huge potential for VAS in India and will continue invest here. It has become essential for operators to focus on VAS to generate revenue," said Lu A Bin, Vice President, ZTE.
ZTE is currently working with operators such as BSNL, Sistema Shyam Teleservices and Bharti Airtel in Delhi, and Tata Teleservices and Idea in Mumbai to provide VAS. The company is also in talks with some operators for providing 3G VAS services depending on which operators win the ongoing bids for 3G spectrum. With 3G on the horizon, ZTE believes the scope of content that can be provided to be huge.
The telecom equipment maker currently has an R&D center in Bangalore and it is focusing on making it stronger. The company's net profit for 2009 was $360 million.
