BANGALORE: A day after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asked industries to broad base employment and make it representative, IT major Wipro, 80 percent of whose revenue comes from abroad, said that there was no room for job quotas in the company. Wipro Chairman Azim Premji said his firm would recruit people based only on merit.

He said, "We compete with global companies. We are primarily in the service business in terms of the mix of our consolidated revenues. Service business is highly people-dependent. People make the company successful or the people make you less successful.

"We have no alternative but to hire the best talent available within India and the best talent available globally to man our positions. While talking HRD minister Arjun Singh’s on reservation move, he said that he doesn’t want to get in to controversy by commenting on the 27 percent reservation in higher education.
