Wipro bags multi-million Akzo Nobel deal

BANGALORE:Wipro Ltd., India's third-largest software service firm said it had signed a three-year, multi-million euro deal with Dutch chemicals group Akzo Nobel. Wipro said it would help the Dutch coatings and chemical maker better manage a string of data centers in the U.S. and Europe. Akzo Nobel will also offshore some related work such as maintaining applications involving SAP based enterprise resource planning. Other financial details were not given. Wipro said it would also maintain software applications for Akzo Nobel, which is also listed on the Nasdaq exchange. N.S. Bala, vice president, manufacturing solutions at Wipro Technologies said “ We hope to design solutions which will help them take their strategy of shared services to the next level.” Gerard Helmink, chief information officer, Akzo Nobel Chemicals said ‘Wipro was chosen for their ability to understand our idea of a shared IT environment and design a solution which will provide us with the best returns.” He added “ In addition to this, the ease of doing business with Wipro is recognized and appreciated highly. During all the phases of the bid process, Wipro delivered adequate responses; they listen carefully and act accordingly.”
