San Francisco: Why only 400K units of iPads 2 will be rolled out in Quartet 1 as compared to original iPad's shipment which is expected to be around 6-6.5 million? Rumors are ripe from parts suppliers that although the production of the Apple iPad will be high this year but relatively low for the iPad 2.
One of the employees of Apple apparently stated that, "For the iPad 2 don't get your hopes up too high. That's all I'm going to say. They've had a number of problems along the way, and the third-generation iPad is the one to make a song and a dance about." The article also stated that, "Apple internally plans to take deliveries of 6-6.5 million iPads, including iPad 2, in the first quarter of 2011 and aims at a total shipment volume of 40 million iPads for 2011, according to sources from the supply chain. 300,000-400,000 units of iPad 2 will be turned out in the initial batch, the sources (DigiTimes via Apple insider) pointed out."
Digitimes rumor left at least 2.5 million of the new iPad shipping in March, suggesting supply would ramp up quickly, with around two million original iPads ordered in January and 1.5 million in the channel. A glitch in the production may affect the shipment but analysts disagree at certain point arguing that Apple doesn't commit anything once it's certain about the production and expectation of shipment to have a healthy supply.
Apple is suggested to postpone any other international launch for the product as they might face problem with the initial stock. It can limit the supplies to their initial launch U.S. whom they can supply 300,000 in a single day. To other countries shipments can be sent once they ramp up the supply of the new product.
