Why Manmohan Singh is tight-lipped?
Bangalore: BJP calls it a Conspiracy of Silence - Be it the 2G scam, CWG or Baba Ramdev's satyagraha - Our Prime Minister Manmohan Singh keeps his mysterious muteness which is wildly criticized. Although Manmohan Singh often reiterates the government's commitment to fight corruption, the lack of proper actions to stop the menace puts him under the shadow of suspicion. Breaking his long silence on the police action at Ramdev's anti-corruption protest at Ramlila Maidan, he said it was 'unfortunate' but 'unavoidable'. Baba's campaign never ceased, but went on for another week with the mass support pouring in from different corners; however, PM chose to be silent ever since. The Supreme Court had earlier criticized the PM for his alleged inaction for taking almost 16 months to decide if A Raja should be charged and investigated. The apex court again lashed out at the UPA government for the police action at Baba Ramdev's camp and demanded the government to explain eviction of Baba Ramdev from Delhi. Manmohan Singh's leadership qualities have been once again questioned by his way of functioning in dealing with the scams. The most powerful leader in the world, Barack Obama who is admired for his communication skills, goes public on every important issue to convey the feeling to the general public that he is concerned and determined to resolve their concern. Manmohan Singh could never be an Obama, who people hails is an agent of change. He could never shut the mouths of his opponents; neither kill the chaos over the scams. Is the leadership instinct missing from our prime minister? The clean image of Manmohan Singh was tarnished to an extent when the news about India's biggest corruption scam broke out; however, he still remains to be one of the country's most honest politicians. The UPA government under Manmohan Singh has been under severe political isolation from friends and foes alike due to the series of scandals and public agitations. It's high time that the PM owns up the responsibilities, talk to the public, be a leader in actions so that he regains the trust of the people. Yes its true that Manmohan Singh is generally perceived to be an honest person, but the way his office functions raises the question as to how honest is he to his job?
