White House announces regional finalists for its Fellowships

Washington: The White House has announced the names of 119 regional finalists for its White House Fellowships. There are 10 men and women of South Asian descent among the finalists. Parul Bhandari of Chevy Chase, Md.; Sonika Bhatnagar, a pediatrician in Pittsburgh, Penn.; Ziad Haider, a former Fulbright Scholar now working in Washington, D.C.; and Anup Mahajan, project director of the National Capital Language Resource Center in Washington, D.C.; are among the regional finalists. Other names in the list include Bhakti Mirchandani, Vice President of a Bangalore-based financial advisory firm; Gautam Mukunda of Somerville, Ma., a postdoctoral resident at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Center for International Studies; Sid Murdeshwar, a financier in Jericho, New York; Chad Pillai, a strategic planner for the U.S. Army in Triangle, Va.; Milad Pooran of Washington, D.C. and Darshak Sanghavi of Brookline, Mass., a pediatrician and the author of "A Map of the Child: A Pediatrician's Tour of the Body." Those to be selected as White House Fellows will be placed in the offices of cabinet secretaries, senior White House staff, and other high-level executive branch officials
